Account Executive - Mid-level 

Digicon Corporation is a dynamic, employee-owned IT services company, and we are searching for an enthusiastic and aspiring individual to join our sales team.  We are currently seeking a Mid Level Account Executive to work in either Rockville, MD or Herndon, VA.

Responsibilities: 

This position is responsible for direct sales of computer hardware and software products to customers.  The Account Executive, Mid-level, has an annual sales quota ($3+ million) and is responsible for cold calling new prospective customers, generating quotes in response to requests, and ensuring that purchase orders and invoices for products are correct.  Principal duties include:  

  • Calling new prospective customers and locating interested parties for Digicon products. Sales focus on Network and IT Systems (servers, storage, and security).

  • Qualifying sales prospects through phone calls and in person visits. Will have detailed weekly quota's to meet.

  • Preparing product quotes using the Quoteworks quoting system.

  • Researching product features and prices.

  • Closing new business. Will have detailed weekly quota's to meet.

  • Verifying that product orders and invoices are correct.

Skills and Experience Required: 

Direct product sales experience, quota achievement, desire to interact with customers and generate sales, CISCO product knowledge. Cold calling experience, familiar with working in a fast paced product sales environment. written communication skills

Education/Training/Certifications Required:

Bachelors Degree. Cisco Sales Expert (CSE) preferred,;will be required during first year. Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Power-Point, and Access.

Bioinformatics Data Analyst, NIH/NHGRI

The Intramural Research Program of the National Human Genome Research Institute, National Institutes of Health (Bethesda, Maryland) is currently seeking a detail-oriented data analyst to provide bioinformatics support to its research investigators performing large-scale genetic and genomic studies aimed at understanding gene expression and the basic mechanisms underlying human disease. 

Position Description: 

The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented bioinformatics specialist who is able to independently analyze gene expression (microarray) and similar large-scale data sets. The successful applicant will have primary responsibility for the analysis of array-based data, the identification of differentially expressed genes, and the generation of ontology and pathway reports. The successful applicant will also provide support and training to investigators using array analysis software licensed by NHGRI, as well as provide further collaborative research support as needed.  

Position Requirements:

  • Proven critical-thinking skills and demonstrated ability to manage and interpret large biological data sets

  • Proficiency in computer-based DNA and protein sequence analysis using public biological databases

  • Demonstrated knowledge of genetics and/or molecular Biology (e.g., successful college-level coursework).

  • Experience using the Macintosh OS X and Windows operating system

  • Working knowledge of the Linux or Unix operating system

  • Basic knowledge of relational database structure and terminology

Bioinformatics Programming Support Specialist, NIH

Digicon Corporation, established in 1985, is a full-service Information Technology Integrator and Provider servicing Network Engineering and Software Development to both government and commercial customers. Position Duties:

The ideal candidate will assist in designing databases for laboratory organization, sequence, microarray, proteomics and other genomics databases, clinical databases, and tools for supporting bioinformatics and scientific computing research projects.  This includes the development or utilization of new or existing applications or software tools.  The candidate will work closely with the bioinformatics support specialist and lab staff to analyze the project requirements, design the prototypes and implementing the systems to support various research projects, for example, dashboard for clinical trials, data management for Stem Cell research, statistics tools for gene expression analysis, etc. In addition, integration of software tools or databases into a viable platform is required and is essential to the success of scientists in the area of computational neuroscience and bioinformatics to be able to freely exchange and analyze data from different sources.     

Required Skills and Expertise:

The candidate should have at least 1-2 years of scientific application development, algorithm implementation and programming experience in Java, XML or Perl scripting.  In addition, the candidate should have solid knowledge and working experience of web database and application development technology with basic level understanding of molecular biology as well as excellent written and communication skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Clinical Database Specialist - NIH/NHGRI

Information Security Engineer

We are currently in search for an Information Security Engineer for a position based out of our Corporate Headquarters in Herndon, VA. 

Position Description:

Provides expertise in the design and integration of security architecture into systems-level design.  Experienced in preparation and updating Security Certification and Authorization Packages.  Provides expertise in the development and documentation of Information Security Evaluation and Technical Reports.  Provides expertise in the development and documentation of Security Concept of Operations. Information Systems Security certification is desirable but not mandatory. 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Review systems and ensure they are secure and comply with all Federal IT Security Requirements

  • Develop and deliver a corrective action report

  • Develop and deliver a secure coding best practice report

  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures for anti-virus operations, remediation, etc.

  •  Work with agency to design and develop system architecture for National deployment of Symantec Anti-virus team including malicious code remediation on workstations and servers

  • Ability to conduct a wireless security evaluation

  • Identify, understand and verify weaknesses, misconfigurations and vulnerabilities within a host or network

  • Provide technical briefings and train personnel on successful penetration paths, description of tools utilized and list of recommendations for remediation.

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 10 years of experience, of which at least 3 is in security engineering.

Position Responsibilities:

MOIT - Mainframe System Programmer

We are currently in search for a Mainframe System Programmer for a position based out of our Baltimore City local government location in Baltimore, Maryland. 

Position Description: 

  • Install, evaluate configure and maintain IBM system/390 mainframe operating systems and a variety of other vendor software  programs, analyze and evaluate computer mainframe equipment and work with various vendors on acquisitions.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software problems;advise computer programming, system analysis and data processing operation staff on proper procedures and correcting problems, monitor the operation of equipment and systems and develop and implement software modifications and design changes. 

  • Develop disaster recovery plans, perform file transfer; troubleshoot and problem solve mainframe issues; performance monitoring of mainframe; performs capacity planning and performance tuning of the mainframe;develops, implement and documents complex operating procedures; on-call 24x7;administers security procedures on the mainframe.

  • Sets up and maintains user accounts and passwords, monitors violations and produces security reports.

Network Security Manager 

We are currently in search for a Network Security Manager to work at our client site in Washington, D.C.  This is a full-time employee position with Digicon Corporation. 

The network security expert will perform the following tasks:  

  • Track and monitor network security using client's suite of tools.

  • Investigate and recommend products for improving network security.

  • Develop, design, and implement network security configurations to improve overall network security.

  • Participate and conduct network security audits.

  • Generate incident reports and correlate event logging.

  • Develop guides and standard operating procedures for network security.

  • Develop project plans for implementation of network security controls.

  • Implement encryption, digital signature, and certificate based authentication systems.

Position Requirements:

  • Seven years experience providing IT systems and building security support, with at least four/five years of specialized experience. 

  • Experienced in all aspects of network and host-systems security, including risk assessment, e-mail security guidelines planning and implementation, data encryption, firewall configuration, and network and building access control. 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent

  • Advanced network security training.

  • Certifications: CISSP (optional), CCNA, CCIE Firewall vendor-specific certifications.

Operator IV - Baltimore 

We are currently in search for a Computer Operator for a position based in Baltimore, Maryland.

Job Duties:

  • Operates and controls multiple operating system consoles to monitor different operating system. 

  • Prepares system for shut down and restart.

  • Maintains hardware downtime logs, inventory and supply.

  • Operates, maintains and investigates malfunctions of all peripheral equipment.  Takes the necessary steps to correct malfunctions including the ability to replace pc monitors and hard drives when necessary.

  • Backs up, updates and maintains system masterfiles based on information supplied by programmers, developers, and operations supervisor.  Maintains tape library of master files and backups.

  • Monitors all environmental equipment and controls (i.e. air conditions, cpu chiller, ups).  log problems and notify appropriate agency or vendor for corrective measures or service.

  • Monitors production of printed output, burst printouts for distribution or pick up by appropriate users. Ability to lift 20lb boxes of paper for printers.

Requirements: 

  • In the supervisor's absence, coordinate the activities of subordinates.  Reviewing the work of new operators during training and document performance for computer center supervisor evaluations.

  • Train new operators on system operations and applications and newly implemented job procedures and newly implemented online applications.  Assigns, reviews and approves work of other computer operators when applicable.

Scientific Programmer-NIH/NHGRI

The Intramural Research Program of the National Human Genome Research Institute, National Institutes of Health (Bethesda, Maryland) is currently seeking a detail-oriented programmer to join its Bioinformatics and Scientific Programming Core.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with NHGRI research investigators performing a variety of large-scale genetic and genomic studies.  These investigators employ cutting-edge technologies, such as next-generation sequencing methods, to advance our understanding of the basic mechanisms underlying human disease.  The contributions of programmers within the Bioinformatics Core are often recognized be co-authorship on publishes scientific manuscripts.

 Position Requirements

  • Two years professional experience programming in Perl & CGI

  • Two years professional experience with relational database development

  • Solid knowledge of SQL and HTML

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and deploying applications on a UNIX and Linux platforms 

  • Familiarity with public bioinformatics and genomic databases and tools (e.g., Entrez, UniGene, BLAST, UCSC Genome Browser, Ensembl, and Phred/Phrap/Consed)

  • Must be well-organized and experienced in software documentation

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with confident and cooperative service-oriented attitude

  • Previous experience providing programming support on bioinformatics and genomic projects

 We are currently in search for a Sr. Business Development Manager to work in either our Herndon, VA or Rockville, MD office.

 Description of Duties:

The Business Development Manager will identify, qualify, and close new business opportunities for IT services, represent Digicon performing sales presentations to clients and partners, prepare opportunity pursuit and justification documents for internal review and presentation, lead sales efforts in creating technical solutions for customer business problems, create a sales pipeline to achieve corporate financial objectives, lead opportunity capture meetings and drive capture activity, and provide quality input to proposals by capturing customer interests and needs.

 Position Requirements:

At least 5 years experience selling IT services to the federal government with a particular focus on DOD and on the Army, DISA, or DLA, a demonstrated track record of winning new business for IT services deals valued of at least $1M/yr., knowledge of solution selling, knowledge of the federal acquisition process and GWACs, demonstrated ability to develop and adhere to an account plan, effective in leading sales opportunity reviews for management and staff.  BA in business management, public administration or a related field required.

Server Database Administrator

Digicon is seeking a full time employee to act as a Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA), who will assist and backup the Government client’s DBA according to the following tasks:  

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform database analysis and development. This duty includes working in the following areas: requirements gathering, database design, database creation, normalization, security, replication, testing, implementation, data migration, performance monitoring, and documentation.

  • Perform database operational tasks. This duty includes tuning, backup, and recovery of databases; installing, configuring, and maintaining database management systems software; analyzing and planning for anticipated changes in data capacity requirements;

  • Assist with the development and administration of data standards, policies, and procedures.

  • Assist the DBA with the rigorous application of information security/information assurance policies, principles, and practices in the delivery of data management services.

  • Assist the DBA with preparation of project status which includes the identification of project risk, project successes, product quality, and product timeliness. This duty requires the proactive and standard practice of regular communication of project activities to key stakeholders.

  • Assist the DBA with the preparation of written material required to inform staff, the clients’ management, and project stakeholder as required. This duty includes development of management and staff briefings, technical documentation, and user materials.

Desired Skills:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or other related discipline.  Eight years experience in all functions of database administration, with six years specialized experience in database programming and design

Technical Privacy Specialist

Digicon is seeking a full time Technical Privacy Specialist to work in Washington DC. The candidate shall provide technical services with an emphasis in IT Privacy issues, to support oversight of a Digicon Federal Client’s privacy information maintained in its information systems.  Under this task, the candidate shall ensure that the client’s IT Privacy requirements are processed and managed in an efficient and cost-effective manner.  The scope of this task covers broad IT Privacy support to the client’s Chief Privacy Officer.  The activities performed by the candidate shall follow guidelines provided by the Privacy Act and other applicable laws, regulations and federal policy.  The work performed by the candidate will enable the Client to enhance and improve its IT Privacy program.

 Under this task, the services provided by the candidate shall include, but not be limited to, the following: 

  • Assist with IT privacy program activities concerned with the analysis, evaluation of the Client’s IT privacy program operations and strategic plans.

  • Advise and make recommendations to the Chief Privacy Officer concerning the feasibility of the Client’s privacy priorities and implementation plans.

  • Assist with the development or modification of the Client’s IT privacy objectives to be included in the overall IT Security and Privacy planning, programming, and budgeting process.

  • Address federal government-wide requirements for IT privacy program activities including conformance to the Privacy Act, non-disclosure statutes, OMB guidance on computer cookies, A-130 Government Paperwork Elimination Act, user authentication, insider threat, and identity theft, to develop and report system specifications and system evaluation methodologies.

  • Assist in writing IT privacy policies to assure that the Client is in compliance with regulatory requirements and legislated mandates governing privacy programs.

  • Apprise senior executive management concerning IT privacy programs’ operational issues and provides executive-level strategies to deal with these issues
